- Before you wash your wig, we recommend that you comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb to reduce the risk of tangles.
- Why alcohol / sulfate-free shampoo ?
- Because these ingredients are bad for hair, they can strip the hair of its natural oils and affect the quality of a wig. If you use a hair dryer after washing your wig with these ingredients, it will make the hair more likely to tangle.
- We should avoid using products with these ingredients: SLS, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Alcohol Denat, Ethanol, SD Alcohol 40, Propanol, Isopropyl, and Propyl.
After reading these tips carefully, it's time to start the formal hair-washing process.
Filling a sink or basin with water
If your wig is tightly rolled, or if you don't want to change the original shape of your wig, washing it in cold water is a good option. The water temperature can be around 10-15 degrees.The colder the water, the harder it is to change the style of wig you want to leave behind. If you want to relax your hair,you could use the hot water.
Add shampoo into water
The next step is add some shampoo to the water while it's filling up to get some soapy bubbles. Before you put your wig in water, we suggest you are better to brush it out. Once it is wet, it will be much harder to brush out. After your wig is brushed out, you're just put it to the water. Make sure that it is completely submerged.
Soak for 5-10 minutes
And then you can gently agitate the wig in the water to make sure that you get shampoo throughout all of it and get it all clean.We recommend letting the wig soak in water for 10-15 minutes.
We recommend that you gently clean the front of the lace, the front of the lace does not need any heavy scrubbing. If you want to make sure it's clean, you can scrub the lace around it by hand.
Wash Shampoo off
After leaving the wig in the water for a while, take it out of the water and all the dirty water can be drained away.
When the dirty water is gone, pour water into the sink and wash the shampoo off the wig. Keep cleaning until the water is clear of bubbles. If the faucet is small and will take a while to clean, use a sprayer on the sink to rinse the wig off faster. Make sure the sink is clean at the end and rinse the wig again. Short wigs may be relatively easy and quicker to wash, but if they are longer wigs you need to take them more seriously.
Caring for your wig
Pick a milder wig conditioner, which is also recommended in our other blogs, so I won't go into too much detail. After rinsing your hair out of the shampoo, you can simply wipe it down with a towel in preparation for our next step in hair care. Then, you can apply the conditioner to the palm of your hand, starting from the bottom of the wig, while applying the conditioner, gently comb the hair with your fingers, do not apply too much, just keep the hair soft. Try not to apply it to the root of the hair, which will make the wig look dirty and oily.
You can let the conditioner sit for 1-5 minutes, but it is best to follow the directions on the conditioner bottle. Once the time is up, rinse with cold water from the top of the wig to the end of the wig, making sure to rinse off all the conditioner before drying your hair.
Lay the wig flat out on a towel and let it air dry
After making sure the foam is completely clean, start squeezing out as much excess moisture as possible, because the more moisture you squeeze out, the faster the wig will dry.
Lay the towel out completely and place the wig inside so that the towel can completely cover the wig. Gently press and roll the wig. The towel will absorb excess moisture from the wig. Be sure to be gentle, as pushing too hard can damage your wig.
After a basic wipe, you can lay the wig flat on a towel to allow it to air dry. The length of time a wig takes to dry varies according to its thickness, length, and style. A normal wig normally needs to be left overnight, but to avoid damage to your wig, it's best to wait until dry before brushing it . You can place it on your styrofoam head or place it on your own head for combing. After the wig is dry, you can use your wig normally.
If the hair looks or gets stiff while hanging dry, simply shake the wig or bundle, comb thru and the hair will instantly soften up.Follow the steps above to clean your hair and you can use it again!
